In growing our bootstrapped SaaS company, @wrangle_io, customers have made it clear we were missing the real opportunity. So we've rebuilt Wrangle to work entirely in Slack.

A thread 🧵 on why. 1/
When @adam_b_long and I started http://Wrangle.io , our goal was to build a web app to track team-to-team workflows. We thought Slack would be one of many integrations.

Turns out it's the one thing people wanted. 2/
We realized the customers we had were trying to do one thing in Slack: run a ticketing flow in a channel.

They have a busy public channel, and other teams come there to ask for help. And those flows inevitably become a mess. 3/
They needed something to automatically log the request, assign tasks, route for approvals, and keep track of past decisions. 4/
The most common ticketing/request driven workflows we see are:
-Product: bug reports/feature requests
-Marketing: collateral requests
-Sales: contract approvals
-CX: customer support tickets

Slack's become the nerve center of orgs and it's where all work is going to get done/not done.

Our top learning so far is how badly people need to track and manage work in Slack. 6/
Learnings: "The Slack Hole" is real.

Snoozing messages and reminders is not cutting it. It's too easy to lose messages - forgetting to mark a note unread or missing notes because you're working from home or in a different time zone. It takes a toll. 7/ https://www.wrangle.io/post/the-ultimate-guide-to-building-slack-workflows-in-2020
Learnings: Employees spend way too much time triaging busy channels. They have to make sure the request is valid, tag someone to help, and keep following up. And if you have work coming in across multiple channels there is no central to-do list to make sure everything's done. 9/
Learnings: History is key. Finding and revisiting past decisions is so tough in Slack. What channel was it in? Who was in that group DM? 10/
Learnings: Many orgs are trying to route work to other tools - Email, Drive, Notion, etc. But the real conversations and decisions are happening in Slack. People just don't want to context switch and leave Slack to sign into another web app. 11/
So we're focusing Wrangle entirely on making Slack more productive by adding real task and approval tracking to chats. Install it as an app in Slack and manage your work in the place where the conversation is happening. No dropped balls or message firehose. 12/
We also integrate with Workflow Builder, so you can add shortcuts to your channel. See them by clicking the ⚡️ icon or typing "/" (like when you send a Giphy) 13/
When they click a shortcut, a form that you designed pops up. That way, you can collect the exact data you need. No more follow up for more details. 14/
This is where the magic of Wrangle comes in. Your workflow can route an approval to people to sign off on the request. For example, reviewing a contract or a blog post. 15/
Your workflow can also assign tasks to the team that they can mark complete with the click of a button. 16/
The approvals and tasks are posted in channel as threaded messages. Everyone can follow along and comment, keeping the relevant context in one place. 17/
When the approvals and tasks are done, we notify the people that their issue was resolved. No need to remember to close the loop. 18/
And because we are part of Slack Workflow Builder, you can trigger other apps via Zapier. 19/
You can also kick off ad hoc tasks - like to-dos coming out of a meeting; or approvals - like reviewing a sales proposal. You can create a checklist or approval the same way you kick off Giphys. You can also turn any existing message into an approval. 20/
Our Slack App is a built-in to do list where you can see all the work you are part of, across any channel.

You can find all past work & decisions without having to search back through channels/DMs. Click on the item in the Wrangle history, the thread opens up on the right. 21/
As long time Slack users, we are pumped to help people become more productive in chat. Our Beta is open and we hope you can check it out and let us know what you think! http://wrangle.io  End/
