Parental literacy/education advocates try to make sure they post from experience & from the voices of their LD kids & families. We know that people starting on this journey may have not had the same access to information & education as the educators & systems they are speaking to
We use social media to tell our stories not for attention, not to make names for ourselves, but because we once we're looking to see "are we the only ones?" We post in easy to search, plain speech & in a way that can hopefully access the people who need it most
When we started our journeys, many of us had no help, no direction, we started with nothing but the knowledge that our kids are amazing, that they aren't lazy or a burden, that something was fundamentaly broken with the systems in place that are supposed to educate them.
On this journey we found so many educators unless their own child was diagnosed with a specific LD like #Dyslexia would not admit or entertain the discussion that they had not been prepared properly to teach reading to these kids and So many families with the same story as us.
Who were accused that they didn't read enough or the right books, that they need to pay for tutoring and tests with money they don't have and won't guaranteed them an effective IEP will be implemented. We are told to fight for the schools that excluded us and change will happen
And we do.
So we post our stories, our opinions. Link accessible articles that work w/Google text to speech or Google translate to make sure other families like ours can still access the info. We refrain from terminology like "Pedagogy" & linking scientific study papers that..

Ultimately don't serve our main purpose.
Which is to give the NEXT family the information that we once searched for & found missing, or inaccessible. Or if you are lucky, to be the person for someone else that helped you with your child.
Most of us aren't politically aligned

Or "against teachers"... We just want our kids to learn to read. That's it. That's all. We want the NEXT family not to struggle to find the ways to help their kids. Not to have to spend $$$$ to find out what help actually works while we are daily gaslit, insulted, blocked...
So while the educators & Edu. Equity Advocates post their own Pedagogy & philosophies, linking scientific evidentiary supports & peer reviews. Understand that what we contribute to the conversation isn't "basic" or "insulting to your intelligence" it's not about you at all.
It's about the NEXT family who might see our story or information. So while we enter another decade without systemic change in literacy instruction & accessibility further exacerbated by a global pandemic... maybe our posts can show the NEXT family how they can teach their kids
