Glen’s thread is very good. It’s perplexing though when the outlet that Glen works for also publishes this
. There’s nothing factually incorrect in the headline or the short story. But it is woefully lacking in context anywhere near resembling the criticism the PM is facing. 1/ https://twitter.com/glen_mcgregor/status/1357715409156374528

And yes, I get it. Glen is voicing opinion whereas Rachel is writing news, a summary of today’s presser. And she does a good job of quoting the PM. However, there is room in a news piece to give more context, to describe the growing criticism that the PM is dismissing. 2/
I was taught to write news from the perspective of someone who’s just tuning in for the first time, to give the viewer/reader/listener even the most basic background. I’m not suggesting Rachel isn’t doing a good job. Au contraire. I think Rachel is just another victim of Bell. 3/
I think this is the classic example of what happens when you cut newsrooms to the bone and have each person doing the jobs that were previously done by 3-4 people. And as management, your priority is being first on social media versus presenting detailed, contextualized news. 4/4
