Amda Seyon (ዐምደ ፡ ጽዮን), meaning ‘the pilar of sion’ whose throne name was Gabra Masqal, ‘Servant of the Cross’ become king 29 years after Yekuno Amlak, the first king who ‘restored’ Solomonian line. He ruled Ethiopia from 1314-44 and his core base before campaign below. /2
Amda Seyon home base was Taguelat which is current day Northern Shoa a.k.a MANZ. His life was defined by living in Christian virtue and his correspondence with neighbors was full verses from the Bible. It is the type of education crucial to this day in understanding #Ethiopia. /3
Amda Seyon is storied for his single handy keeping the Orthodox church intact at a time when it was confronted by its greatest challenges. In his campaign, he was able to subdue all of his surrounding kings leading to the flourishing of Christianity & coexistence with Muslim. /4
The Horn of Africa of was a strategic location back then and continue to be true now. It was Amda Seyon who embraced Christians, Muslims and pagans under his vast rule with more than 10 kings and 99 governors. He had designated judges and once can say a truly federal system. /5
If one takes Arsi where Menelik’s blamed as conquer, Amda Seyon was there five hundred years before him. At the time the area was inhabited by Dawaro Kingdom, Muslim of Somali origin which was absorbed to Oromo ethnic group. Menelik only prevented Europeans & keep it Ethiopia. /6
It is the reason why Amda Seyon is the founder of Ethiopia. It is an insult to portray any other image especially as something part of the Scramble for Africa. Menelik going through a traditional school knew very well history & set a campaign to reclaim what was once Amda Seyon.
