This isn't satire?
Clearest distillation of very online leftists wanting to punish/hurt people who they find scary because they're on the TL but kind of ignore everything else in society
Serial killers? Abolish prison. Man with viking hat cosplaying at the podium? Death penalty.
Manslaughter, homicide, assault, robbery, abolish prison. Walk around with Nancy Pelosi's podium? Believe it or not, jail.
To be clear in this article the author is wrestling with her feelings, she knows there's a contradiction. But the question she should ask herself is the one the wider progressive movement should: why are they so obsessed w/so little of society?
Last year was one of the most violent in decades, so many people killed in homicide waves, bystanders shot dead. Progressives barely noticed this or mentioned it. The capitol event was basically the only violence they even recognized as significant.
This suggest that their view of society is largely about defeating their enemies. In this case their enemies are the right/far-right. Their whole worldview is polarization, even if they have to just ignore what's going on in the rest of society. No anger, not even recognition.
No panicked leftist was writing a missive about the emergency measures they want taken to stop the hundreds of killings in NYC last year as they rose by more than 40% year over year. That didn't fit the political narrative they see in their social media feeds, so it doesnt exist
Q Shaman provokes a much stronger emotional reaction than homicides hitting a 50-year-high in St. Louis. Why is that? Our political bubbles have filtered the world down into narrow slices where most of it isn't even seen by us.
