Our models of #curriculumdesign, #collegeadmissions & #collegefunding were designed to perpetuate white supremacy. The post-war expansion of #publichighereducation, with its massive public funding, was for white men. When it was expanded to include women & #BIPOC... 2/5
...public support collapsed (with white men who attended state schools for free voting to raise costs for current students), to the point that opportunities for economic & social mobility are severely limited. The decline in public funding & need-based financial aid... 3/5
...combined with wild increases in #higheredcosts, & increased emphasis on "merit-based" aid, mean even more opportunities for the privileged, & fewer for the traditionally under-represented. 4/5
Back to Lorde's point: with all the #DEI work we're doing on our campuses, we're just trying to use the master's tools to dismantle the master's house. We can't work within a white supremacist system to dismantle white supremacy, which begs the question: WHAT CAN WE DO? 5/5
