People are arguing about 3D backgrounds in comics on my TL, I think it's an interesting subject.

I've used 3d models here and there and found that while it's very useful for things like cars and jets - it's not quite good for backgrounds. (1/6)
Not because it looks bad (it depends on the style and how well 3d models fit in), but because it limits your camera movement, weirdly enough. When you draw things yourself - you can move objects in order to find the best composition for a panel. (2/6)
Chairs, tables and even walls are moving to give you the best framing. Of course you can do it with 3D models too, but you won't, right? You'll just leave it there.
I found that it's easier to just draw things sometimes. (3/6)
That being said - I absolutely refuse to draw a car, if it appears on more than one panel and should be consistent. I don't have that kind of time. Just download a model and trace it. (4/6)
I don't really use models for characters, only when the pose is very hard to figure out. And even then I end up redrawing it. I don't know, I feel like you can always tell when an artist uses models for characters - they become wooden and weird. (5/6)
But you know what, in the end the only thing that matters is visuals. If it looks good and it saves your time - use it.
Wally Wood said "Never draw anything you can copy, never copy anything you can trace, never trace anything you can cut out and paste up". Good rule. (6/6)
