Last night, the Senate cleared a huge hurdle for securing COVID relief in passing the Budget Resolution. We were disappointed by some votes on the amendments, but something important happened before the final vote that isn't getting much attention.

First, the GOOD: Very early this AM, Democrats passed an amendment that undid 3 of the earlier votes Republicans had won:

1) Preventing tax-paying immigrants from receiving survival checks
2) Support for the Keystone XL pipeline
3) Endorsement of fracking https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-usa-congress-idUSKBN2A514V

This was a critical flex by Leader Schumer and exactly the kind of leadership we expect to see. Thank you, @SenSchumer!

But onto the BAD: Leader Schumer wouldn't have needed to clean up after this caucus if Democratic Senators hadn’t taken bad votes that betray the interests of their constituents.

Most alarming was when 8 Democrats fell for a cruel and exclusionary “gotcha” vote to bar tax-paying immigrants from receiving survival checks.
