Adbhut Ramayana ( A Thread)

Today , we will be discussing a rather unique version of Ramayana known as Adbhut Ramayana.

Adbhut Ramayana has 27 Sargas/Canto and is one of the most shortest interpretation of Ramayana attributed to Maharishi Valmiki.

Adbhut Ramayana gives some important details such as 25000 versions of Ramayana being present on earth

Reasons for birth of Sri Ram and Maa Sita are mentioned in Sargas 1-6

Dashamukhi Ravana gets his boon from Lord brahma in Canto 8

Maa Sita's birth story is also in Canto 8 and gets married to Lord Ram in 9th Canto

Sri Ram Shows his Vriraath Roopa to Bhagwaan Parshuram in 9th Canto

The Ravan-Sita Haran episode happens in 10 th Sarga

One of the Gems of Adbhut Ramayana is Ram gita which is present in 11-14 Cantos where Lord Ram taught Upaniṣads , Samkhya , Bhakti-Yoga to Hanuman.

Lord Ram kills Ravana in 16th Canto.

Maa Sita in 17th Canto says that there is another Ravana also known as Sahasramukhi Ravan. He rules over Everyone.

in 18th Sarga Lord Ram decides to defeat and win over this Sahasramukhi Ravan.

Detailed battle between Lord Ram and Ravan is mentioned in 19-22 Cantos ( army vs army )

The battle was so brutal that Sri Rama fell unconscious that is when Maa Sita got angry and assumed a destructive form(possibly of mahakali)

Without much effort She sliced off all 1000 heads of Ravana , killed him and wiped out his demonic army .

But she did not stop and started playing with sliced heads and more terrific forms of devi appeared from her head and caused havoc with her.

Earth started to sink as it could not bear the anger of Mahakali. Lord shiva assumed a form of a corpse and placed himself under her feet. Earth became stable but planets above earth were still unstable due to roar , sounds of that terrific form.

All the gods prayed to her so she could stop later on Lord Ram regained his consciousness and was shocked to see the ongoing scenario.

Lord Ram prayed to her by using her 1008 names and finally she reverted back her form to Maa Sita and he praised her "Parmeshwari" again.

27th Canto Concludes Adbhut Ramayana and discusses benefits .

Conclusion : Adbhut Ramayana will open a new perspective of Ramayana for us. We as Traditional hindus should read alternative versions like this one, even if we don't consider them authority .
