THREAD START ——

As we can see; the concept is probably (definitely, I hope) inspired by film noir.

But, I’m not sure which version of film noir it is. Based off first glance, it definitely is sorta film noir, but probably because it’s in black and white.

Film noirs, are normally known as —

Film noir, yes, but according to these pictures tells me it’s not gonna be your average stylised, sexually motivated iconic film noir traits.

If you’re familiar with sci-fi thrillers, horror and horror noir you will be agreeing (or not hehe) w me on these.

They give off the classic Hitchcock vibes. Especially, The Birds.

Also, @Ieetm said it gives body snatchers vibes and I totally agree. I also think Lynch movies had a big contribution to the concept as well

If y’all aren’t familiar with Lynch, he’s a mastermind. Often seen as the master of “neo noir”, if there’s a certain style now, it’s often seen as “Lynch Noir”. Here are a few examples:

So, I think #SHINee

are going for a Neo Noir concept. Because it’s very very similar, and also a very Hitchcock sort of vibe as well.

Also, I love to call this vibe the Hopper Scissorhands vibe. Have you seen the colour palette ? It’s pretty similar.

Everything looks idyllic, yet, there’s a sense of underlying “strangeness” and danger, it’s a feeling you can’t shake off.

In film, we’re always taught that details matter, no matter how small. Here’s my interpretation, quote w yours !!

My view: a perfect illusion about to burn down in flames, destroyed by reality. Everything is so serene, yet there’s a fire.

Also, keyhole + ominous, Giallo sort of colouring ? Mysterious. This must be Area 07. Are we being watched ? Or are we watching them ?

AS USUAL, COLOUR IS VERY IMPORTANT.

Think. This is a BRIGHT MUTE palette. Everything fits. Nothing is out of place. It’s perfect. An ideal.

* Giallo is a type of Italian horror, one of its most well known films is Suspiria, by Dario Argento. Colour is VERY important in these films.

we can KINDA say that it’s an idyllic isolation with underlying horrors sort of vibes.

has a VERY Lynch inspired lighting here, (watch any Twin Peaks ep and you’ll see why)

So, 3 point lighting is the basic and standard, but, I believe the teaser uses 4 point lighting

It’s able to make light seem much more natural, yet alien.

I love lighting. It is very important to any medium, be it traditional art, photography, digital art, or even films.

The way you light things makes it complete.

Let’s look @ the teaser, shall we ?

So. The key point is that it CHANGES during Kibu’s part.

It was warm. But then when the “sky” changed (aka overhead LED lighting, possibly RGB spotlights!!) the colour palette became colder

The significance of warm tone lighting to cold tone lighting is very apparent here. If we saw in the teaser, only Onho glitched, but TaeKey didn’t.

TaeKey are always surrounded by colder colours, making them seem much more natural in the hard lighting environment

Meanwhile, OnHo have VERY bright muted colours and Hard Lighting

Meanwhile they have 3 point soft lighting on TaeKey. This is a significant detail, look out for it, Shawols !!

Cold lighting is normally presented for cold hearted or sad characters, colours as well.

While warm lighting is to represent happiness and development.
