What's next on refugee resettlement after last night's #refugeeEO?

1) We still don't have an increased cap for this fiscal year. The admin has said that will come with congressional consultations. That's a good sign that indicates a commitment to comply with statute (imagine!)
2) The EO last night focuses on processing. It's an incredible deep dive focusing on the staffing and policies necessary to have an efficient process that treats applicants with dignity. It's the first steps on how the admin plans to get to 125,000.
But that still leaves us with the question of which groups will be resettled.

a) We know from EO that there's an intent to restart Central American Minors.
b) We can hope to see the program resume referrals from UNHCR immediately. Traditionally that's been the biggest source of referrals, and advocates have spoken in unison on immediate need.
c) Other details--how many admissions from which regions, if particular groups will be prioritized--should also come in the report to Congress.
