Inspired by #BlackHistoryMonth , we’re doing something a little diff for group meeting today! Everyone is presenting their favorite  #BlackScientist based on accomplishments in OR out of the lab. Thought we’d share the first few w/ @AcademicTwitter! Stay tuned!
Granted, Prof Chris Alabi @alabiac @cornell does very elegant molecular engineering work. But @ProfArmani chose him b/c he taught he taught her click #chemistry when they were both students. And #mentoringmatters@chemjobber

Prof Yanne Chembo @clarkschool @eceumd is simply a stellar scholar who has made amazing contributions to optics. And then there ARE his PhDs - yes, plural. How many people have TWO PhDs on TWO different topics? #Photonics

Prof Sossina Haile @NorthwesternU has done amazing work on battery development AND she has been an amazing (positive) role model - for decades - for women in engineering (including our advisor!).  #WomeninSTEM

Prof Ronke Olabisi @olabisilab @UCIengineering is a Sr researcher hiding as an ECR. She has already made numerous landmark contribs that advance the impact of #tissueengineering. #spacetravel #womeninstem

Prof. Kimani Toussaint  @brownengin does really innovative bio- #photonics work, but more importantly, he has a long track-record trying to make large @NSF Centers more inclusive (to non-NSF funded participants). #leadership

Prof Keith Hawkins @AGalactichawk @UTAustin studies the chemistry of space! But he also makes time to help undergrads (like our group member!) develop experimental outreach "modules" for elementary and middle school students! #impact

Born in the 1800's, Garrett Morgan is an amazing #inventor & champion of his community. Not only did he create many life-saving technologies (smoke masks for firefighters!) but he also supported #HBCU and the @NAACP! #rolemodel #BlackinSTEM
Nominated for our  #BlackHistoryMonth GM by our resident programmer, Dorothy Vaughan made landmark contributions at @NASA, and her life is perseverance personified.  @BlkInComputing @HiddenFigures
Dr. Ronald McNair, one of the astronauts on the Challenger Disaster, has a living legacy in the McNair Scholars program which helps support  #firstgen and other underrepresented students for grad work. @BlackPhysicists @NASA
