And there’s that male privilege. Easy to be so definitive and cavalier when you’ve never crossed the road because you heard footsteps behind you, or had a bunch of lads telling you to smile when you walked down the road. Or felt hands on you when you tried to get to the bar 1/3 https://twitter.com/alexsobel/status/1356382772152184832
in a crowded pub. Or worried that saying yes to a drink might be construed as yes to something else. Or had that feeling that most women have experienced more than once of giving in after saying no repeatedly because he’s so much bigger than you. Or thinking about how long 2/3
your skirt is or low your top is because men can’t be expected to control themselves. That subconscious feeling of vulnerability that most women recognise because while not all men rape, 1 in 4 women have been subjected to rape or sexual assault and 90% of the perpetrators 3/4
are men. But it’s easy to ignore women while trying to be so bold & woke & deny us our sense of safety & security in the places we may feel the most exposed - in toilets, hospitals, refuges. This isn’t an issue for men to decide. This is about women. Step back & stay quiet.
