A thread:
Early in the pandemic, progressive, technocratic governments were clearly doing a better job at managing it than populist, right-wing governments. Consider Canada vs the U.S. Or E.U. vs U.K.
But progressive governments are not doing very well at vaccination so far.

The vaccination program in the E.U. is a mess, as @SylvieKauffmann has noted -- far behind Britain's. And within the U.S., many blue states are also struggling to vaccinate people rapidly.

Most big blue states are behind the national U.S. average for vaccinations, including CA, NY, NJ and IL. And it's not just about size. Rhode Island is behind, too. (3/n) https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/us/covid-19-vaccine-doses.html
The two states with the highest vaccination rates so far are West Virginia and Alaska. (4/n) https://www.pewtrusts.org/en/research-and-analysis/blogs/stateline/2021/02/02/these-states-found-the-secret-to-covid-19-vaccination-success
Why are so many states struggling to vaccinate people quickly? They're obsessing over process. They're deferring to local leaders and creating a confusing patching work of rules. (5/n)
New York State is a good example. So far, it has seemed more worried about preventing people from getting shots if they come from the wrong category than about putting as many shots in arms as quickly as possible. (6/n) https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/10/nyregion/new-york-vaccine-guidelines.html
The big question now: Can the Biden administration becomes the first major progressive government in the world that doesn't get lost in procedural questions and figures out how to vaccinate people quickly -- saving lives in the process? https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/05/briefing/marjorie-taylor-greene-uk-vaccine-biden-stimulus.html?action=click&module=Briefings&pgtype=Homepage
