1) Re: Return to typical in person school for all in April...Physical distancing aside, there are 6 weeks left of school after April, 2 weeks of state testing that has not been waived yet. The last week of school is not typically a "robust" learning week. That leaves 3 weeks.
2) The system #mrpsvt designed which has ample evidence of success - only one interruption in learning in one school so far - could not be redesigned over night or over a vacation to open new classrooms.
3) 18% of our student body chose to do a completely virtual experience. We staffed accordingly and have made it work. We have contracts and accommodations in place that cannot be disregarded. Many in that 18% will not want to come back to in person.
#mrpsvt #teachers are superb at building relationships with kids which they have done so without the hugs & high fives of a typical year. We would need to reorganize kids into new classes if everyone were brought back. The last 6 weeks would be a waste of time w/out relationships
5) Reorganizing kids into new classes would be an unnecessary transition in a year where it is imperative to keep expected routines in place. This world is full of the unexpected for kids...let's not add more.
#Teachers, #principals, #supportstaff, #superintendents, #custodians, etc... have literally moved mountains in what has been the most stressful year education has seen. This expectation might just be what breaks the back of #Vermont's amazing #educators.
In the last month we have heard news that we will have to pay more in pension & work more years because law makers messed up yrs ago. We're not getting vaccinated likely before summer. I ask that we just stop the talk of adding more unnecessary stress onto educators. #vted
