This is the weirdest video I've ever seen. Microsoft is suggesting that their new remote work tool will help you "feel and be your best"

The plot appears to be a single worker orienting almost all her time around work virtually.

The video is a caricature of work and furthers the idea that work will save us and helps us discover our "true selves"

It's easy to shrug this off but Microsoft software influences how hundreds of millions of people feel, behave and act in the world.

This is a huge shift
There is a lot of energy around remote work and virtual tools. A lot of them are interesting and creative. But Microsoft essentially can flip a switch and change the OS for people overnight.

How many people in Seattle are deciding on how we should relate to work?
This idea that work is central in our lives and serves to enable us to be our best "self" and unlock meaning, connection and purpose has been promoted by companies for the past 10+ years and they haven't delivered. Not to mention most people don't related to work in that way
There's already been a large trend of people being more frustrated with work despite for many people it being a better place than 30 years ago.

We are walking straight into a huge crisis in the next 10 years in how we think of work. This is going to be a disaster.
If you have a company please don't sell culture PR that you will let them do meaningful work, find their purpose and unleash the deepest connections of their lives. people aren't stupid. Just be honest about what youre good at and where you're trying to be better
career pages are one thing but building these false promises into a software that will be used by hundreds of millions is another thing. https://twitter.com/p_millerd/status/1354773720795996161?s=20
