Gonna rattle off a medicine at midnight thread cause work sucks
1st listen caught me off guard. Wasn’t expecting it to be that funky and alty and thought it was eh. Wished it still had their 90s sound to it. 2nd listen was much better knowing what was coming. Overall a good but not great album
HATE the weird background singing on it. ‘Making a fire’ is a top 5 track on it but it would’ve been number 1 if it didn’t have those stupid “nah nah nahs” in it. ‘Cloudspotter’ and ‘Holding Poison’ at 1 and 2. ‘Chasing birds’ and ‘Love dies young’ finish off the top 5
‘Waiting on a war’ flipping the tempo at 3:10 really got me going. Don’t like that they followed it with ‘Medicine at Midnight’. Should’ve opened with ‘Waiting on a war’ and then followed with a hard, old school sounding FF song. Plus the album felt like it was 1 song too (1/2)
short and was missing a hard rock workout song on it. Then they could’ve used ‘Chasing birds’ to kind of change the tempo back to the alty funk thing they were going for. Especially since ‘Chasing birds’ seemed very underutilized where they positioned it. (2/2)
‘Medicine at Midnight’ sounds like a QOTSA song and I mean that in a very good way

People calling this a “Masterpiece” need to chill out. A “masterpiece” has at least 1 all time song on it if not more. This doesn’t have any all time songs on it. It just has a bunch of good, a few really good, and zero great songs on it
