Latest data from the MHRA suggests that both vaccines are safe, given data received from the first 7m vaccines. "Yellow cards" (where symptoms might be linked to the vaccine) are received in around 3 per 1000 doses, but most of these are minor.

Two issues are noted. Severe allergic reaction, where the advice was quickly changed where people have particular allergies, and Bell's Palsy. Here it is concluded that the rate of occurrence is in line with normal expectations given the large number being vaccinated.

Similarly for subsequent death, it is noted that given the cohort being vaccinated, we might naturally expect several thousand deaths in the 7 days following the jab, and following up the individual reports gives no cause for concern.

This latter point is important. With over 1,000 deaths each day of the over 75 population, it's sadly inevitable that some will naturally die shortly after they have been vaccinated. Whilst many of these natural deaths will be expected, many will be sudden too.

It's important therefore not to jump to conclusions that a death in the few days after vaccination is linked to the jab, although one can understand why loved ones might feel that to be the case.
