Football academies are not magical places where talent is moulded into professional footballers.

They are accelerated environmental niches that allow the talent to rise to the top through the pressure of competition and selection.

Evolutionary melting pots.
If you look at the initial intake in an academy you will see a broad range of technique, physique and mental abilities.

As the years go by they look much more similar.

Not because they have been shaped or moulded but because what's left is what the process was selecting for.
A process has produced this forest. When we view it and see the taller outcrops, we may select those and suggest that the system produces tall outcrops

Any football talent process will as is blatantly evidenced produce varying types of player. All that's left is what's selected
The key thing is the process was not designed to produce just the tall trees. It just produces stress. Any size of tree really.

It doesn't care.

Due to the innate talent of the tree and the environment it is being selected for, it will either survive or be cast aside.
Here's the kicker

Look how all the trees are surviving a thriving not just the taller outcrops.

Only our judgements lead to a definition of success or not and remember a kid in a football academy is eventually gonna be judged.

THAT'S THE PROBLEM. N
Nature, will allow a child to grow and find its way in the world. An optimised human system is optimised towards one thing. When that doesn't happen, everything is failure.

It's to early to judge kids like that. Don't do it to them!
