Thread: Amongst the Covid gloom, it's easy to miss ongoing good work and progress, so thought I'd share the latest rough-sleeper figures in Cardiff. We've brought them down to historically low levels and kept them there. Now down to just 4 rough sleepers, the lowest I've known
Lots of reasons behind this, in particular innovations we introduced in 2019, our commitment to a 'no going back' strategy as we exited the first lockdown, financial support from @WelshGovernment to help implement, and the Public's support for the Real Change campaign
It's also a testament to the incredible hard work of the @cardiffcouncil Homeless teams, and our partners from @SWPCardiff and @CV_UHB. My thanks to them all, and to Cabinet Member @LyndaT48, who's been relentless in her drive to help the city's homeless
If you scroll through the Council's social media, you'll see amazing stories of the lives being turned around. We can't and won't take our eye off the ball, but it's so good to see the difference that political will can make. It's why many of us in @cardifflabour stood for office
Finally in terms of the 4 individuals still on the street. They each have very complex needs. Accommodation has been offered, but each individual has turned it down. We continue to provide support such as food, clothes, and PPE, and continue to try and persuade them to come in 🤞
