Re: exponential growth on social media leading to a damaging view from a younger mindset
Growth in likes or followers happening suddenly is a lot like winning the jackpot in gambling. A lot of how we put work on these platforms is similar to gambling and can create addiction.

So if you're a young impressionable person looking to find your footing in the world, that stuff can eat away at your sense of personal value, and is harder to get over as your exposure to said platform increases.
For some, the attention can be a good thing as potentially a self esteem boost, give some self confidence that what they're sharing is of worth. The problem is when that feeling fades away and you don't quite reach that same high again - how do you deal w/ it?
Kids don't know lol

The euphoria high of going viral on social media is just like getting dopamine to the brain when your gamble succeeds - high risk high return if it pays off.
Now what does that do to kids who don't know how to manage that level of stress and attention?

Let's also add on a few extra things that come in tow:
- The elevated status of ageism where if you're young and successful, you're seen as someone on God-tier level. Unhealthy pedestal worship.
- Suddenly more than worrying about school your socmed life matters more.

You're bombarded by the requests of many strangers giving over-stimulus of positivity and negativity mixed together.
You're expected to perform to a large group of strangers unwarranted all when you're at the young age of 13-15.

Now let's also bring into the mix that maybe said young person doesn't have many friends to begin with, so social media is how they cope with wanting validation - this is the tightrope that many young people on socmed have to deal with today.
On top of their current life which is already plenty stressful, now they also have to worry about the stat counting, feeling rejected when their post doesn't make high numbers that they expected from the one big boost, maybe even irl ppl treating them differently bcs of the fame.
