Thread for NLUOites, now that the Council elections are here:

Imagine if our country (leaving the practical difficulties aside) had a voting system which ensures that only the candidate who has more than 50% support from each religion gets to be PM.

Sounds good right? (1/n)
Such a system ensures that religious bigots don't get elected.

Similarly, the current voting system we have of preferential voting (50% from both boys and girls) is designed to ensure that only a candidate tolerable for both boys and girls gets elected. (2/n)
Most candidates standing in the current elections want to do away with this voting system, with the excuse that this gives the Admin to nominate their own candidate to the Council.

So, how do we get past this? (3/n)
Quite simple, really. Ensure that only 4 candidates from a batch, ie, 2 candidates each from boys and girls stand for the elections. Now, the election does not get hung, because you can only vote for one person - ensuring a majority vote from both sexes. (4/n)
Special shout-out to the Class of 2025 here: they conducted an intra-batch election for the 10 or so candidates who wanted to stand in the elections, and in the end nominated only 4 for the general elections. (5/n)
As someone who knew the people who drafted our constitution (Ram Tiwari, Manogna M., et al), I can assure you this is EXACTLY what they had in mind when they introduced this procedure. I've also seen them struggle to get this constitution passed. (6/n)
Manogna and Ram T. held countless sessions to familiarise everyone with the voting system, and went out of their way to ensure that EVERY student came out to vote during the 2019 elections. So much that they held up the voting for a while till I could return from the hospital.
So for the love of God, don't lose this constitution. Vote smart.
