Children in grades 4, 5 and 6 are not at a cognitive level of development where they are able to fully appreciate the criminal nature of their actions and the lifelong consequences of being labelled a criminal.
Studies show that the younger a child has their first contact with the criminal justice system, the higher the chance of future offending.

Children who are forced into contact with the justice system at a young age are less likely to complete their education and find a job.
It is critical to ensure childhoods are not stolen by the criminal justice system. Children need to be in the education system.
