Good ole “use your legs more” and stride farther

Here’s the kicker with that and why that cue is possibly so hit or miss.

There’s two ways to feel muscle sensation/activation.

One, you can let your muscles stay relaxed and stretch to elongated positions to feel “loading”. https://twitter.com/108_performance/status/1357479130166661121
Two, you instantly contract your muscles to have them feel like they are “loaded” or being used.

Which ones do most guys tend to fall towards? The latter.

Understand by letting your muscles relax and lengthen this will allow you to tap into the stretch shortening cycle of the
lower half, which will give you a much more optimal firing of the body.

Your muscles are always activated and switching between loading and firing whether it feels like it or not. If they weren’t, then you’d be laying on the ground.

Secondly, allowing your body to lengthen
into Its load by staying relaxed and stretching will allow your body to work into more optimal positions in which you can make your throw happen. Longer or quicker stretch loaded positions (relative to your anatomy) will give you more time to accelerate and apply force to the
baseball. Common physics, more time for acceleration = Velocity ⬆️

The BIGGEST understanding of this all though is knowing when to “use your legs”.

The answer? Upon front foot ground contact. Try using your legs before then? Well good luck trying to rotate efficiently off one
leg. The legs are your anchors so that your cannon can fire ( @parksy317 😏).

Let’s your body float/stretch to loaded positions and then when that foot hits the ground rotate like a tornado in a doorway. ( @LantzWheeler)

So don’t just stride farther to stride farther thinking it
means you are using your legs more. Stride farther while continuing to hold the ground. If shortening your stride means you begin to hold the ground better and get to better stretch loaded positions with your lower half because of it, then boom that’s the way to go!
Last thing, when “using your legs”, obviously you are trying to use the ground. Is the ground the true supplier for force production or is it an amp? 🤔🤷🏽‍♂️
