The Big Question

The biggest, and perhaps the only, problem of modern India is not enough good JOBS.

INADEQUATE NUMBER OF HIGH PAYING FORMAL SECTOR JOBS.

This is pushing youth talent into unemployment and turning the demographic dividend into a disaster.

Solution?
+
+
The only solution is large-scale jobs generation, in the scale of many crores each year.

Till date, we have failed squarely, despite government efforts since 1998 or so.

With each passing year, private firms are opting more for automation, machines & AI, rather than humans.
+
+
So where are we headed? Into a social disaster.

Agriculture is struggling badly, with dropping incomes and farm distress. It was identified by govt. itself, much before the proposed reforms. So Agri isn't the way out.

Services just aren't that employment-intensive.

+
+
And Services need a different education profile, at least for the WELL PAYING JOBS.

So what's left is Manufacturing. (not broader industry, but pure mfg - factories)

Pvt sector in mfg. isn't interested in jobs generation. Trends are they'd be happy with zero manpower!
+
+
How do I say that?

Well, look at how pure contract labour has risen in mainstream formal mfg. industry in India in past 10 years.

Look at what Wistron violence taught us.

Private firms now want automation, not men and women workers.

So where will jobs come from?
+
+
There is only one way

A central government funded national factories mission, that targets opening of one giant factory in each of the 750+ districts.

These will be low-cost, low-tech, low-skill factories. Production for domestic + exports.

Human oriented, not machine.

+
+
Each will target 1 lakh jobs, 50% for women, to begin with.

They will all be formalised, with proper work contracts and social security.

Absolutely normal Indians, with no special education, will be hired, given minimum 1/2 months training, and put on the job.

+
+
Over five years, crores of ordinary Indian men and women will be thus formally employed, producing stuff that's consumed locally and also exported.

Formally employed. In a Central PSU factory venture.

Imagine their purchasing power, and the boost to India's demand scene.
+
+
In just 10 years, many of the fundamental problems of India will be tackled at the roots.

Women empowerment - done
Formal jobs - done
Exports push - done
Moving folks out of agri - done

But the catch is - all this is only possible via government, not private sector.
+
+
Now, funding part. Where will the money come from?

Among other things, ask the super rich of India to fund the setting up of factories, by giving them a minor stake in the PSU.

Give civil awards to those who do more than 1.
+
+
There can be many other innovative ways to do it.

But let this be clear - today, there is no hope of generating the scale of jobs needed in India, either through Services or via agriculture.

We need 2-3 crore well-paying jobs each year for a decade.
