many have asked what more they can do for the #farmersprotest. we’ve been told by human rights orgs that raising awareness on social media is most effective in this situation. it is pertinent that we keep bringing international attention to this!!!!!
posting on socials may feel small but it IS action. doesn’t matter if you have 10 followers or 10,000- EVERY voice makes a difference. don't diminish the power of awareness. speak loudly and proudly my friends. ✊🏽 we’re on the right side of history.
let’s also keep focused: modi’s 3 farm bills will corporatize agriculture and millions will lose their livelihoods. months ago punjabis marched to delhi in what has now become the largest protest in the world. across india ppl organized the biggest strike in human history.
farmers and farm workers from across diff states, religions, and backgrounds have joined. protesters say they refuse to be taken over by an authoritarian regime and the regime’s billionaire friends.
in response th govt has banned th internet. beaten & tortured protesters. barricaded protest sites w/ cement & spikes. journalists are being illegally detained + charged. peaceful women activists like #NodeepKaur r illegally held w/o bail & sexually assaulted in police custody.
police are allowing bjp goons to throw petrol bombs at protesters. hundreds have gone missing. indian government’s propaganda machine is using bollywood and national media to malign the movement.
internationally: press advocacy orgs. human rights orgs. and int’l labour groups have all spoken up and begun to call out the indian govt’s actions against protesters.
the farmers protest is a climate justice movement. climate activists are supporting farmers who've long demanded reform of green revolution practices that have resulted in a depleted water table & high cancer rates. corporatization & contract farming will further destroy ecology.
farmers call for crop diversification & environmentally friendly agricultural practices. one of the first pieces i wrote was 'the cancer train' (2011) inspired by industrial farming practices which led to extreme cancer rates in punjab.
we need REFORM- not a red carpet rolled out for billionaires. #stopadani
it's vastly important that the international community keep raising their voice.

ours is a fight against crony capitalism. against human rights abuses. for truth. a fight for democracy. we r not afraid to be maligned by this fascist regime. we stand with the #farmersprotest
