In honour of the 2021 Paraguay Apertura starting on Friday 5th February, here is a quick summary of the ten teams including the kits they'll wear this season (except Nacional who launch tomorrow).

THREAD 🧵⚽️🇵🇾
1. Olimpia

Defending champions, managed by Pipo Gorosito, have won 4 of the last 5 tournaments. Improved squady with Salcedo (CB) & González (FW) rejoining club while Jordan Santacruz (DMC) and Ramón Sosa (CM) bolster midfield.

Ex-Juve Chelo Estigarribia has also signed.
2. GuaranĂ

Bad summer for the vice-champions who saw a mass exodus with 11 players leaving, over half had been regulars.

Retaining Gustavo Costas was key, they'll rely on Bobadilla and Fernando Fernández up front and hope young Colombian imports Richard Rentería & Tegué shine.
3. Cerro Porteño

The 2020 Apertura champions have finally replaced Diego Churín with the signing of Mauro Boselli. Winger Mateus Gonçalves brings cover for Carrizo & Aquino.

Arce will hope for youngsters Pulpito Duarte & Enzo Giménez to keep developing.
4. Libertad

Paraguay's richest club have invested heavily, pinching Merlini (AMC) & Baéz (CB) from rivals Guaraní. Alexander Barboza bolsters backline after multi-million move from Independiente.

Their new coach is Garnero, the most successful manager in recent years.
5. Luqueño

After years of turmoil the centenary is upon the auriazul and they need to put in a good show for fans in 100th year.

Beltrán and Pajaro Benítez bring important experience while Takayuki Morimoto is a big coup for the Kuré. Could surprise with a top half finish.
6. Nacional

The Academia showed marked improvement under Hernán Rodrigo López. The Uruguayan coach has only picked up a few reinforcements, namely Orlando Gaona Lugo.

Brahian Ayala and Danilo Santacruz the most exciting players offensively.
7. Sol de América

The Villa Elisa outfit generally struggled in the Clausura but have made some big signings with Luis Leal, José Ortigoza and perennial winner Osvaldito Martínez joining the Danzarín.

Danilo Ortiz returns to Paraguay and will bring much needed steel in defence.
8. Guaireña

The countryside club performed brilliantly in 2020 to secure a Sudamericana spot. They lost their best player, Delvalle to Libertad and have turned to experience (they have oldest average age in league).

Three-time champion Paniagua is a shrewd signing.
9. River Plate

All change in Kelito, 21 players signed and the same number out! Losing RamĂłn Sosa was a blow, but reuniting Pablo Zeballos & Luis Nery Cabellero could be a masterstroke.

Mario Jara is the new manager having taken over in December 2020.
10. 12 de Octubre

The Itauguá side lost one goalscorer in Zeballos but picked up another in Pablo Velázquez. They have banked on experience also bringing in Paulo Da Silva (41) and Topo Cáceres (35).

Unlikely to repeat last season's regular season finish (1st).
