/ Some people would say that it is wrong to take European folk tales and reenact them with PoCs as the protagonists. As I study German folklore, I have given this a lot of thought, and wish to say the following to those objectors:

Shut up and go away. https://twitter.com/disneyplus/status/1357377125133651968
/ Those folklore tellers of old would have been the _first_ to take any tales they've heard somewhere else and alter them for their own audiences. Tales we're never unaltered, and storytellers often made changes that placed events and people somewhere nearby.
/ I mean, there is even a folklore subgenre that I call "Bible fanfiction" where biblical characters show up in Germany for no good reason, including Jesus Pontius Pilate, or the giant Goliath (whose grave is said to be in modern-day Lower Saxony).
\\ (Not to mention the fact that biblical characters were almost always portrayed as white Europeans in European churches, but I digress...)
/ So changing folklore tales to make them appeal to new audiences is a completely normal thing. And while there might be a few versions that are often held up to be "iconic", such as those published by the Brothers Grimm, there is really no such thing.
/ They merely represent a "snapshot" of a tale, recorded at a specific place and time - and often heavily edited to make them appeal to the audience of the book. Meanwhile, other versions of the same tale continued to proliferate among oral storytellers.
/ So if you object to such an adaption merely on the fact that the actors are PoC, you should probably spend some time examining why exactly you are being racist, and what you ought to do about this fact.
/ Frankly, the only caveat I want to state here is that it shouldn't take Disney for such an effort. Folklore tales are _meant_ to be retold in new ways. So, if you come across any European folklore tale, you should feel free to change them in ways that please you.
/ Trust me, you are following in the footsteps of the folklore storytellers of old. Who were pretty much like modern-day fanfiction communities, only with less copyright restrictions involved.
