So many Canadians have such a weak understanding of civics. I have studied it all of my life, and Twitter has taught me so much more.

Over the last days, both in and out of the media, I've ready so many misinformed takes on what Ottawa could have done to "take over." 1/4
But Ottawa can't take over areas of provincial jurisdiction. They especially can't take over without the cooperation of the provinces in question.

Ottawa offered to do more through the Emergencies Act. The provinces said no. They should own this.

The opposition knows this. 2/
Unfortunately, too many in the media seem to want to push a narrative. The narrative says that the federal government is responsible for every ill in Canada.

Is this borne of malice, or ignorance? I can't say. It's just as damaging either way.

Canada is a country of laws. 3/4
We have a constitutional distribution of powers between the federal government and the provinces. So many Canadians are done a disservice by having their lack of understanding amplified and even encouraged by people in so many corners. It is dangerous to Canada. 4/4 #cdnpoli
