How it started               How it’s going

👇🏽 A THREAD 👇🏽
One of the first questions I always get when I post something like this is "how are these cards worth so much?"

Simple answer: Supply and Demand.

Duh.

There are 2 big factors in that for cards, IMO...
Supply side: Rookie cards are printed once in a career.

Demand side: Millenials who grew up collecting cards are discovering them again as the market explodes..

They have kids and disposable income. It's nostalgic. It's fun.

Like I said - simple enough.
Now - Luka's value...

It's important to note that the value of the card pictured is a function of Luka more than any particular card.

The shorter print and more sought after the card, the bigger the $ - but they all follow a pretty similar curve.
Here is Luka's base prizm and several short print parallels on a logarithmic curve -- That's a curve relative to scale not $.

It's generally the same curve.

*I've noticed that lower dollar cards are much more volatile... there's $ to be made there*
Timeline!

This will not come as a surprise:

Like the stock market, values revolve around hype and performance.

Oooooo I said it @Tesla

Here's the hype that backs up these spikes:
-Nov '19: Averaged 32/10/10
-Mar '19: 30/17/10 vs NO
-August '20: 43/17/13 in playoff W vs LA
Tons of other blips on there like making the All Star team, 2020 season kickoff, but the spikes revolve around national attention for remarkable performance.

For a player like Luka, these spikes are inevitable and he's an international star, so they're big.
Add to that that this RWB Prizm is a PSA 10. That's a 10 out of mf 10. It's perfect.

There are lots of variables, but a 10 is worth multiples more than a 9.

This is a un-numbered, high volume parallel of THE modern card brand. It's not the the base, but it's nothin special.
Sports cards - like anything - are worth what people are willing to pay for em. The market is hot right now, but cards being worth $ isn't new. It's been going on for 70 years.
If you dig this breakdown and have any questions about cards, smash that RT button and gimme a follow. Always down to talk shop.
