Profection years are determined by age and help anticipate the themes we will experience during any given year of our lives. They begin in the 1st house at birth and progress every year with age 11 being our first 12H year.

To get a better understanding of profection years & how they may effect you...start with the house ruler of the year you’re currently in.

This means that since my last birthday I have been motivated by 3rd house related subjects:
Communication, learning, & how I interact with others in relation to how I see myself (1H Gemini) + the need to improve upon these areas in order to live up to my potential. (NN transit)

Next you’d look to the ruler of the sign. Gemini is ruled by Mercury so I look to where Mercury falls in my chart.
It’s in Cancer in my 2H.
This means that my focus on communication & learning will likely be related to making money (2H) at home and nurturing others (Cancer)

I literally started investing in my apothecary and been working from home doing readings and connecting with people for money?! 
At times I had communication issue & struggled with time management + working through the bad days etc. which is very 2H cancer Mercury of me

I’ve also noticed that any Cancer + Moon transits and aspects have had a major impact on my year. As well as Moon (Monday) & Mercury (Wednesday) days.
Especially because I’m a Virgo moon. (Virgo is also ruled by Mercury).

And it’s in my 5th house (5H is ruled by Leo) while my 3rd house contains Venus in Leo!! WHEW! That’s a whole lot of emphasis on self expression and connection.

At first glance, I felt the themes of this year were all over the place but I believe it’s because when the moon influences your profection year, things can feel less stable bc the moon changes signs more quickly than the other planets.
That’s why being aware of any major transits throughout that given year will be important to know just how heavily you’ll be impacted.
For example, I anticipate that the Full Moon in Virgo on the 27th will be very intense for me due to my 3H year being ruled by Cancer.

I even noticed that whenever the transit Moon, Mercury or Venus comes in contact with my 6th house or 10th house (naturally trine my 2H where Mercury is) it’s been really beneficial! Especially in regards to communication.

Specifically when Venus was in Scorpio and now the moon (in my 6th house) especially since I have my natal NN there.
I kept wondering why it happened bc going viral is kind of a luck thing in my opinion. And I truly believe this is what did it, in addition to other aspects.

Lastly it’s important to understand that you need to use traditional rulerships. Aka Mars rules Scorpio, Saturn rules Aquarius & Jupiter rules Pisces. This will be more accurate and insightful for you.

But what’s most important to know is the sign and planetary ruler of your profection year and start there! What do you know about that sign? What good/bad qualities do they possess? How do they function, problem solve, communicate etc.? This will help you navigate the year.
