Thread: It’s difficult to articulate everything you want to say in one or two tweets on Jose and Tottenham. It’s always appeared that Levy had a dream of Jose being his manager for many years. He tried and failed previously to appoint him. He got to a stage where he felt ready
He’d built the infrastructure very successfully and the club were successfully qualifying for Europe’s major tournament every season. It needed that final push to get over the line. The Pochettino era was successful but no trophies. The ultimate was missing
So hello Jose Mourinho. A winner. A serial one too. Sounds perfect. At last he had everything (on paper) in place. Jose would’ve been sold a vision of this club that was ready financially compete because record revenues were forecast from the shiny new stadium & sponsors
Not so fast. Enter covid. Regardless of any opinion on Jose the landscape changed dramatically and there’s still no definite signs of normality returning any time soon
The summer window comes and they navigate reasonably well considering. Even had a minus spend which for Levy is foreign ground. Results were acceptable and they start his first full season well. However along come West Ham and everything seems to change
Jose seemed to be so scared by that result that he went so defensive that players appear scared to try different things and express themselves for fear of becoming a Winks or more notably Dele
The results slide as does confidence and you begin to question your confidence in the manager. The negativity is infectious. Turgid displays and an over reliance on Kane and Son to bail us out
So where do we go from here. Divided fan base and seemingly a divided team with incidents like Dele and Aurier. If the players stop playing for him then there really is no place to go. It’s just a slow death. For Levy, when does he jump?
Failure to qualify for European football will give him no alternative but to sack Jose. The current climate has added more importance to qualifying for European football and being able to keep the likes of Kane
Sunday sees the visit of WBA and then it’s the FA Cup at Everton. Lose both and you’re beginning to struggle to justify keeping Jose. Levy would obviously like to see an upturn in form but it needs to be quick. Levy could well find himself at a crossroads very soon.
