Instead of focusing on "learning loss" and its adherence to a deficit mindset and standardized metrics, is anyone up for considering how some students might be having a "safety gain" from not being in their buildings right now?
Not just because of not getting Covid, but also not being in oppressive, violent structures that suspend them for breathing wrong.
The people who are on fainting couches about what's being lost don't really want to consider what trauma is also being avoided.

I hope the people who want to rush people back to "normal" are willing to acknowledge that normal isn't all that great for a lot of students and families. And also, shut all of the way up about poor, Black, and/or homeless students if you won't keep that fire in 2022 and beyond.
Obviously it will be great to reach a point where vaccines make full schooling safe. All the arguments I hear now are, well they only get covid sometimes (!), online learning will lead to shorter lives (because covid doesn't...?), and a bunch of disingenuous white nonsense.
Do better!
