That models show exciting or boring or terrible or likeable things in the long range all the time and are wrong about it much more often than not might be the real jackpot of this thread. https://twitter.com/ryanmaue/status/1357465923012227075
That being said, if you like cold and snow and live in the South, the pattern setting up for the 7-10 day period starting Wednesday of next week is what you want. A major cold wave is looking pretty likely during this time, but snow and ice chances are highly uncertain.
Bottom line:
It makes sense to be ready for winter during wintertime. For example, how’s the insulation on your home’s pipes looking? If you have an older car (>4 years old), have you had your car’s antifreeze checked lately?
Give some thought to your situation. Might you need to clear snow from your driveway? It helps to have a snow shovel. If you live in the boonies and got snowed in for 3-4 days, could you handle it? A power outage when it’s very cold? Et cetera. Do your due diligence.
As we go through the coming days, details will get more clear and lots of meteorologists will be doing their thing to keep you informed as to the details of how cold it gets and exactly when along with winter storm potential. Stay tuned to your favorites!
