i have some thoughts, general but sparked by Talks.

This isnt the first time fans have had frustrations at how we view/invest in npcs vs how the cast can seem to not care/understand them as deeply as we do. I think those frustrations are absolutely understandalbe
but I also know they come from a very real thing. the nature of the medium and our connection to it.
look every campaign's different but I think I can count like 5 times in my entire roleplay history where I've really been invested in an npc rather than interparty connections
That's not saying that loving npcs and wanting to build stories with them is any less. God no! its just different. Game to game.

But for us? we arent playing. We are watching. So those npcs, especially played brilliantly by matt
feel just as REAL to us as the PCs
Thats going to be true (I find its Less true as they go on, but its slow going of course) for them for a range of characters who we ADORE. its not that they dont care about them. Its just for them, they are more invested in the player to player.
That's just one of the things i think we are going to have to understand with this story. its just different approaches.
Though nothing is set in stone. Players change the longer we play etc.
Then there's also the fact that for us? our absorbing of the story is different to theirs. that one comes up a LOT. like players forgetting things they've done that feels so FRESH in our minds. Us knowing how to play in ways they dont etc
And so then, yeah with essek for example. It crops up in stuff like the fact that we spend days writing and sharing meta. watcihng supercuts and old eps. capturing the little details and remembering it fresh.
That, due to many reasons
I dont think is the case for the cast themselves. For us 'the fancy and the fooled' can be as fresh as Yesterday. So in some ways, we DO know their story a bit better than them. 'perspective' again.
But that's the sort of thing you'll see in all walks of fandom. Plenty of folks know george rr martin's world better than him in some ways because of how we engage with it, where as for him he's trying to remember YEARS of stuff
So yeah. Liam can have good insights. And he can be wrong in some ways too. The same goes for all of them.
And when they answer be it at talks or at cons etc, those arent prepared answers. they are on the spot. So they will be rough thoughts.
So yeah. I just had some thoughts I wanted to share. this isnt a post of 'blame' or anything like that. there's layers to all this. i post this with respect <3 just musing on the nature of dnd play vs dnd watching etc. a unique experience to say the least.
