Thread: This is a really interesting article from a number of fronts.

First, let's start with this piece:

"Ford didn’t elaborate on how it would spend the additional ~$10 billion toward electric vehicles in the next five years beyond what was previously mentioned."

"Solid Power is in discussions with eight automakers but won’t have a contract until the technology is further along, Campbell said. The time line could move up to 2025 if there’s “extensive cooperation” from a car company, he said"

(3/11)
Domestic EV penetration is basically nothing right now. Most estimates say 2%. The growth potential is insane and if $F is serious about competing with $TSLA and others in the EV market, a joint venture with Solid Power would make a ton of sense to me.

(4/11)
I've always assumed Solid Power would go public. In fact I think it would be a big mistake for Solid Power not to take advantage of the excessive optimism in the markets right now and get that multi-billion dollar valuation by SPACing but....

(5/11)
...this piece is important:

"The startup doesn’t intend to seek the billions needed to build a factory from scratch -- it designed its batteries so they can be made in existing plants."

(6/11)
$F locking down Solid Power would legitimize them in the EV space.

A $F-Solid Power joint venture would be great but where does this all lead? Lithium but first another thought.

@Herbert_Diess just happened to join Twitter on the day of the inauguration of a President that has been pounding the table on electrification. The first thing he did was tag Elon Musk. Just a coincidence right...

VW's Chattanooga factory and $QS investment are huge.

(8/11)
VW knows there is a massive opportunity with the EV penetration that is on the horizon in the coming years.

I'm sure $TSLA, $F, $GM, and a few of these others will all do real well but there is one massive issue.

A looming shortage of battery grade lithium.

(9/11)
It's great that billions of dollars are being thrown into EVs but there is a massive squeeze on the horizon when it comes to battery grade lithium supply.

This is where $LAC is laughing. Thacker Pass is the best known domestic asset and will be ready to produce by 2023.

(10/11)
$LAC controls the future of domestic EV penetration and my guess is that $F, VW/ $QS, $TSLA and others are all trying to get a piece of TP.

I don't give stock advice - just my thoughts but if you're not long $LAC you need to give your head a shake.
