It blows my mind that a lot of the misinformation on ADHD come from an anti-psychiatry and especially anti-ADHD Scientology campaign.
That it isn't real, that it is over-diagnosed (SPOILER: QUITE THE OPPOSITE) that it is a pharmaceutical campaign.
There are papers on it.

It turns out that L Ron Hubbard believed (or desired) that Dianetics would overtake Psychiatry.
They even planted a member in the American Psychiatric Association.

People with ADHD - and I know because I am one - are asked to justify ADHD and themselves all the time.
This is ignorance and not only is it harmful, really harmful, but you are actually doing Scientology's work for them.
I am a curious combination of furious and amazed.

Could you imagine the numbers of children undiagnosed and suffering because their parents believe this misinformation which by now has filtered through all of society (a friend with a PhD asked me these questions). Or adults who can't deal with the shame and are afraid of meds?
This is incredibly common because ADHD medications have been demonised by these campaigns. They are some of the best understood and oldest medications available (there is a whole podcast on this topic from a psychiatrist).
Even doctors who don't take ADHD seriously, especially in women, and believe me, they are a lot more common than you would imagine or than they should be.
My path to diagnosis was very long and packed with misdiagnosis. I am a fairly classic case of combination ADHD in women.

Friends who are teachers confessed they realised years ago (my reaction? OMG WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME?).
The only way to fight lies and misinformation and conspiracies is with the truth.
Also a polite request that you listen to people and don't project misinformation on to them.
