Racist imagery is one of white supremacy’s tactics to desensitize us to violent/oppressive behavior. By dehumanizing people w/degrading & humiliating stereotypes, those in power manipulate the masses to advance heinous goals to ensure their dominance over others. #NotYourMascot

IMAGES HAVE POWER: Racist imagery such as the Pickaninny, the Tom, the coon, and the savage were used to further dehumanize enslaved Africans and build support for slavery. The same imagery was used to reinforce racist Jim Crow era policies.

Nazis portrayed Jewish people as greedy and ugly with hunched backs, crooked noses and teeth, and devious plots to take over the world.

This imagery and behavior reinforce negative stereotypes and dehumanize Native peoples, which pave the way for the exploitation, erasure, and extermination of Indigenous people.
