I have been thinking about how to say this in a way that isn't upsetting for many. This is my best attempt. It is a creation care matter for Christians to choose a bred dog versus a rescue dog. 670,000 dogs are euthanized each year. I believe God cares about that.
There needs to be nuance, especially around those with allergies. But just wanting a certain kind of dog or wanting a puppy, I do not believe is enough. Wanting a dog that doesn't shed is not enough.
There are breed specific rescues available! My beloved Jack came from a cocker spaniel rescue because a former roommate had a cocker, and I had fallen in love. I would pay a lot of money to see just one picture of Jack as a puppy, but instead I rescued him as he was.
We also need to talk about the amount of money we are spending on bred dogs and the stewardship there. Again, this is not black and white. I am just concerned we are not talking about it.
