Eniola’s tweet is an important one- especially if you’re young. I’m seeing people in their twenties and thirties feeling inadequate that they’re not living a life of ‘luxury’, that is typically the purview of much older people that have worked for longer!
The rise of influencers has compounded an already problematic celeb culture- now, we are all a lot more unrealistic! Our expectations materially are completely off kilter with the economic reality we are in lmao
You’ve got people in their twenties and thirties who think it’s achievable as a single person to: go on expensive dates, expensive holidays, drive a nice car, own a house etc... This may be the reality of your fave influencer but it’s not the case for most of us!
Outside of people that are really successful influencers, sportspeople or entertainment stars, you are generally more likely to experience the aforementioned luxuries in older age. That is a fact. Aspiring for them so young is pressuring us unnecessarily.
This is why I’d love to hear more ‘normal’ people about how they manage finances, bought a house, bought a car etc... because the experiences/methods of a successful influencer are largely irrelevant to the most of us.
