There are 2.6m Muslims in the UK. 50% of them are under 25.
But average Muslim household wealth? Is £20,000.
The least in the UK.

And there are 3 aspects to this:
- Interest rates
- Inflation
- Pensions
Interest Rates.
Haram. So money in our bank accounts doesn’t generate any yield from interest rates. Plus, differing views on mortgages+interest rates means putting money into property is off-limits.

This means, our money doesn’t grow. Just sits there. In comes inflation to silently eat your money away.
Inflation measures the rate at which goods and services increase. You see Coca-Cola being 59p when once upon a time it was 45p? Yeah, that’s inflation.

In 2020, inflation averaged 1.5%. Meaning, if you had £1,000 sitting in the bank account, you lost 1.5% due to inflation rates. Now, imagine you leave your money in there for years and years and it doesn’t generate any yield. Yeah, you’re losing money
Pensions
This is one way you are made to invest.
Every month, a portion of your payslip goes to a pension which is invested into UK indexes like FTSE 100.
However, problem is, not all FTSE 100 companies are halal and in the last 10 years, the FTSE has gone up….8.66%

So what can you do?
Because of all this, it’s important you find ways to invest. Like the stock market.
Now, you can pick individual stocks etc but for the average person, they’re too busy and that will be another thread for later.

The easiest way would be to invest in a shariah compliant ETF and a good one is Wahed Invest’s $HLAL ETF but they have an expense ratio of 0.50% as an ongoing charge.
