There's a ramping up of the rhetoric against #WoodhouseColliery and @WCumbriaMining by the #environmental lobby.
@BorisJohnson has been told that he faces humiliation if the #CoalMine goes ahead in #Whitehaven as the #UK prepares to host #COP26
2/
The Mine, which will extract coking #coal for use in the #steel industry will bring 500 much needed well paid jobs into an area with one of the worst areas of deprivation in the UK which has 49% #childpoverty
The socio-economic argument outweighs the environmental.

The Government devolved the decision making process to proceed to @CumbriaCC who's Cllrs approved the project.
However with the ramping up of the anti-Mine narrative my fear is that the Government will buckle and call in the decision and overturn it.

This will be a huge kick in the teeth for the local community.
It will also leave local Politicians, of all persuasions with a problem having been unanimously in favour.
It will present the local @Conservatives with an even bigger problem especially the MP and the Mayor.
5/
We have been through a similar process quite recently with the Moorside project which would have seen a new #nuclear build adjacent to the existing #Sellafield nuclear facility.
I was at the very first presentation and wasn't convinced at all that this would happen.
6/
I am of the same opinion that Woodhouse Colliery will not happen either for reasons outlined above.
What I know will happen is that as an offer that will be akin to crumbs from the table the area will be offered the promise of jobs on the site of the Mine.
7/
This will be for the Underground Nuclear Storage Facility or GDF as it's known (Geological Disposal Facility)
This highly controversial issue has not enjoyed the support that the Mine has and I do not believe the community will accept this as a second best scenario.
8/
The simple reason this will not be acceptable is that nuclear waste wil be stored very near to domestic housing.
It will also not offer the same number of jobs in the operational phase; yes the jobs will be there in the construction phase but not in Operations.
9/
Our local Politicians have got a job on their hands and I do not envy the position they have been placed in yet they are elected to deliver for the community and unfortunately with this I see them coming up short (I hope I'm wrong)
10/
If they cannot deliver this project and offer a pale imitation this will not be forgotten at the ballot box at the next time of asking.
