The only person you hurt when pirating books is the author.
Big corporations can get new authors.
Amazon will find other workers to exploit.
But authors publish books because the have rent to pay and medicine to buy.
Book piracy can destroy careers and close small presses, but it's not going to hurt the corporations or The Man.
It's going to hurt minority authors who won't get a second chance, and disabled authors who can't just go get a 9-5 job because of their health.
Book piracy is kicking a homeless person, stealing their blanket, throwing their food in the river, and then shouting that you're giving capitalists the middle finger.
Wall Street won't hear you, but the homeless person does.
You want books to be free?
Cool!

I'd like my medicine to be free, but it's not. So I need to have a job so I can eat and have a house. And writing is the job I'm physically capable of doing.
Do not punish authors for trying to survive in the capitalist society we are forced to live in.
There is no opt-out button for capitalism.
I can't wake up and go, "Hmmm, I'd rather just have my food for free today."
I either have to grow my own food or I have to earn money I can exchange for food.

Writing is the work I do to earn that money for food.
"Lots of authors have real jobs! Writing is just a hobby!"

Anyone who is published is not a hobby writer. They are doing work that people find value in it and the only reason they have another job is because they are underpaid.
Every form of entertainment you love from music to video games to books and movies involves writers.
Writers are making music, developing movies, and providing you with books.

PAY. YOUR. WRITERS. YOU. COWARDS.
I realize that times are tough and you might not have money for books. Maybe there's no local library. That's fine... there's a ton of free writing on places like Wattpad, AO3, and most authors give away free review copies if you ask.
Pirating books makes you a terrible person.

No excuses.

If you really wanted a free book and couldn't find something for free anywhere between the library, author websites, Wattpad, and AO3 you could always write your own book. It's always an option.
And, if you want to come at me with "INFORMATION SHOULD BE FREE!" than I will counter with "MEDICAL CARE SHOULD BE FREE BECAUSE I NEED IT TO LIVE!!!" but it's not.

And fiction isn't information, it's art. It's something uniquely created by the author.
You are not entitled to having someone write books for you for free anymore than Amazon is entitled to make warehouse workers work for free.
PAY. YOUR. AUTHORS.
