At the @SoundTransit Exec Committee, update on transit oriented development. I’m continually impressed as we’ve evolved from “We don’t do housing, we build trains” to a more expansive vision for using our position to drive creation of equitable transit-oriented communities. 1/
Of 2100 homes, 1500 are/will be affordable at a range of income levels. Good to see numbers at or below 50% area median income. 2/
Concluded item w/vote to recommend no-cost transfer of 10 ST sites to Seattle Office of Housing for affordable housing. There is strong community interest in two of these lots to build a Family Empowerment and Coummunity Housing Center by/for East African Community Services...3/
... along w/other community interests & needs. ST & Seattle commit to engage public to empower local communities to meet their goals and address displacement which too often follows transit investments. Chair Keel says he’s proud and “This the right thing to do.” Agree! 4/4
