Let’s talk about Renee Hess.

Renee or as you may know her as @BlackGirlHockey founded BGHC in 2018 to unite black women in the hockey community.

But she’s done so much more.
Not only does she empower black women but also established a *scholarship program to subsidize the costs of playing hockey for Black women ages 9-18 years old.

She’s been not just a vocal supporter of black women but she’s a big supporter of black success.
Renee, until you came around, a lot of us felt like our voice was not being heard. Until you came around, we never had someone like you that even when times were tough, you lifted our voices. When no one would help, you stood on top of the mountain and screamed for us.
You may not realize it but you are making history every day with the impact you are having not just in the black hockey community but everywhere. Never has hockey had someone like you and you are going to go down in history as being one of, if not hockey's greatest influences.
Thank you for allowing me to help out with the Get Uncomfortable campaign, thanks for making me feel part of this game when no one else did.

Most people think that the players are what make the game, but it's icons like you that make it truly great.
As much as this month is honoring and celebrating the groundbreaking things our ancestors did, while also continuing the fight for equality, what you’ve done and the impact you have had will be something everyone of us won't forget.

With love, Sebastian Jackson.
