Some of my new followers might be curious about my position on the sex trade. Am I a prude? Am I a Christian? Am I a moralist? Nope. Just a trans girl who found myself jobless and homeless and with no other option but the sex trade to get by.
I experienced some horrendous things while I was in the sex trade, including violence from clients, harassment from police, and having to live on the streets and in a shelter because after a traumatic incident my body physically shut down in front of clients.
I realized that the image the media paints of the sex trade is diametrically opposed to what I experienced and what the girls I was with experienced. I've had friends die and fall into psychosis due to all the things we did to get by: drugs, alcohol, compounded ptsd, etc.
I think that true sexual liberation can only come when we liberate our bodies and sexualities from the state AND the market. And, that commodification of our bodies, our land, our water is always a bad thing that we should fight. We can't let capitalism commodity everything!
So if you are curious about what I think or how I came to this position, please ask me! This issue is so charged that many people see this in a black-and-white, good-or-evil way. We shouldn't be afraid to openly discuss this!
