When Phil Fraboni ( @HamCam) arrived at CTV some years back, us reporters were like, “Who is this guy?” We quickly learned: A gift! Very few are so good at so much: Shooting, editing, lighting, interviewing, and being all around DECENT. Bonus: He’s a Storm Trooper on the side.
Phil also took the time last night, after a no-doubt crappy day, to send me this. A reminder that on the many hard days in the bad-news biz, having team members who can make you smile goes a long way. The guy in the background is cameraguy/truck operator Ricardo Alfonso.
I will never forget the last story I did with Ricardo ( @photoinmotion) — a particularly awful one, both of us sitting on opposite sides of a coffee shop table, writing, editing, tears streaming down our cheeks. He's an incredible talent, and he's got heart. Speaking of which...

Ron Dhaliwal is another get-up-and-go cameraguy who is rarely not smiling, never complaining, never failing to produce. He’s versatile, sharp and just awesome. I don't recall the last time that so much quality talent — and so many incredible human beings — lost their jobs in one fell swoop, in my world anyway. I will be (sadly) adding to this once I get some blessings. Please add to this thread and include the @NEWSTALK1010 talents.
Regarding @HamCam's Storm Trooper pictures, it should be noted that he assembled those costumes and did all the paint and detail himself. He and his pals do incredible work for local charities and @sickkids. No trooping or visiting hospitals during pandemic unfortunately.

Something I learned after arriving @CTVToronto was that sometimes, people are actually as great as they seem on TV. (Sometimes they're not, too, but I digress). @AnwarKnight is exactly as he seems: PURELY GOOD, and incredibly strong. Guys, he can literally hold the whole world.

I'm so sad to be telling you about @gilles_saindon, a remarkably kind, incredibly hard-working truck/camera op, the guy who purposely removes obstacles, rather than inadvertently adding them. And 4x Twitter followers than @chrisbroadley0 had this morning. EVERYONE NEEDS A GILLES!
When I first started @CTVToronto, one of the first things my (Sasky) parents said was, “THAT's where Tom Brown went!” They were so excited. As were the many masses over the years who were graced with his presence, often on live television. Cont'd
Tom delighted everyone just by being Tom: Grinning, hugging, indulging, being so larger-than-life that surely it must have been an act, but it wasn't. He's a total wonder and, while not on Twitter, "humbled and moved” to be included in this thread. Also:
Another incredibly significant person with very few Twitter followers, Dave Mills-Hughes. A sly smile with a helluva lot of responsibility, a steady voice in the control room when sh*t went bonkers. I loved working with you DMH and any team would be lucky to have you.

Seeing @Russ_Courtney smile in the field was a rare treat, a moment to be savoured. He is a kind and compassionate man, but also a consummate professional who is intensely serious about his work, which he has, for years, done so, so well. Cont'd
