Senate Bill 90, proposed by Sen. Nesiba and Reps. Healy, Duba and Keintz, would recognize hair discrimination as an unfair and discriminatory practice.

We support #SB90 because hair texture discrimination is intrinsically a racial justice issue. https://www.aclusd.org/en/sb90
Natural hair is professional. Any policy banning race-based hairstyles is racial discrimination. This particular type of discrimination is all too common for many Black people, particularly women.
In fact, Black women are 1.5 times more likely than white women to be sent home from work because of their hair and 80% more likely to agree with the statement "I have to change my hair from its natural state to fit in at the office."
We’re glad to see that state lawmakers are moving the bar to protect people and encouraging everyone to be themselves without fear or bias blocking their path to success.

🚨Discrimination of any kind, has no place here.🚨
If Senate Bill 90 gets signed into law, South Dakota will join 20+ states that have passed or are considering similar legislation. This move would make it clear that race-based discrimination won’t be tolerated in South Dakota.
Senate Bill 90 will be heard in the Senate State Affairs Committee on Friday, Feb. 5. In support of our partners at @sdvfjustice who have been backing this bill, we ask that you write your elected officials to request they pass this policy. https://www.aclusd.org/en/sb90
