If you have gotten into PhD programs and are debating btw various ones PLEASE make sure to reach out to current students with questions. Some important questions: what support did you receive during the COVID outbreak? Were you supported in your decision to be on/off campus? 1/5
Are there funding sources to support you despite this lost year (and more) of research? Has your uni taken grad student voices and needs into account? Do you have a union advocating for you? 2/5
How unis treat current students in this climate is a reflection of how they will treat you. What students expect of students in this climate is a reflection of what they'll expect and demand of you. 3/5
And if you have only one offer on the table, please remember that there are tons of equally fulfilling spaces to work and practice the skills and traits you love of the academy. If you got into a uni that has absolutely disregarded student needs, you don't need to accept. 4/5
Your work life balance, your health, and your happiness are the most important factors in this decision. I know you've invested time and resources in apps and tests and skill training for this. But it's not your only option. 5/5 #AcademicChatter
