NEW: According to some sources, President Biden will announce today an end to American support for offensive operations in Yemen.
There’s still a lot to unpack here.

We do not know what “defensive” operations the US will still support, what deems a “defensive” vs “offensive” operations, and in what capacity we will still support Saudi Arabia’s war in Yemen. Sec Blinken did not respond to this previously.
In short, this is no time to declare this a “win” until we know the fine print and the details.
Apparently this end to “offensive operations” means the halting of two arms sales of precision guided munitions to Saudi Arabia. It will not end strikes targeting AQAB.
A reminder that some of the worst US actions and even war crimes have been “defensive” operations.

Which is why we still need to ask questions about this and hold the administration to account.
